Why Iowa?
The question on everyone’s mind this week: What is the best blog ever written?
To answer this question, we must go to where it all counts, where Kings are crowned — the state of Iowa, which makes logical sense because the State of Iowa has a population of 2,982,085, and the borough of Queens only has a population of 2,255,175.
Luckily, I actually know a blogger in Iowa — Churlita. Here is a picture of her voting at the recent Iowa caucus.
(Oops, wrong photo. This is the one of her making out at midnight on New Year’s Eve)
Neilochka: “The voters want to know. What is the best blog ever written?”
Churlita, Iowa Voter: “Citizen of the Month!”
The results are in!
CBS News: “Iowa votes for change. Citizen of the Month beats Dooce as best blog ever written. Technorati’s Top Bloggers Quit in Disgrace.”
Huffington Post: “Why Iowa Got it Right.”
CNN: “Neilochka wins! The American People have Spoken!”
(Do I know anyone in New Hampshire?)
I think the entire primary concept needs to be retooled, even though I’m happy with the Democratic results. Why should these tiny states be setting the agenda?

Ha ha. I totally voted for you in the caucuses. You were the most viable blogger candidate there. I’m so glad you won all the delegates.

I hope we don’t see Hillary and Bill in this kind of shot anytime soon.

What’s interesting is the primaries used to be completely irrelevant and the nominee was selected at the national convention (i.e. in a smoky dark room). Somewhere along the way, the two reversed and the primaries now determine the nominee and the national convention is just a bunch of speeches and hype.
I agree with you that having two of the nation’s smallest (and whitest) states determine the national nominee is bogus. But as a former NH resident, I will tell you, it’s fun. I saw Al Gore speak way back in 1988 when he first ran for president.

Neil, you’re hysterical. But in answer to your question…it’s not that these states will decide (and can you please tell me how it is that Iowa picks Huckabee and Obama at the same time?)it’s that CNN and MSNBC and FOX NEWS all need something to fill 24 hours with. So they make a big deal about what Iowa has to say. I mean, it can’t be Britney all the time, now can it?

I’m waiting for the inappropriate “caucus vs. cock-us” jokes… I’m so disappointed!

Do you need a running mate? FYI, I’ve never shot anyone in the face.
With a gun.
