Easter Sunday for Jews

Have a wonderful Easter Sunday, you crazy Gentiles! Passover is still better, but those Peeps are darn tasty! Are they kosher for Passover? Is anyone wearing a cool Easter bonnet? Why do you always have “ham” at Easter? Isn’t that a little bit pushing things in our face? How about having brisket one Easter and inviting me over? You think Jesus would want to have ham for dinner? I love the painting of the eggs! Genius! Danny, Canter’s Deli tonight?

Hey Neil, you’re welcome to join us here in the not-so-balmy South. We’re having turkey today. Almost like Thanksgiving, just miniaturized. Actually, we usually do have ham, but we decided to switch it up a little.

Hope you and Sophia have a “Happy Pagan Holiday that’s been co-opted by the Christians” or as we call it at work - Happy Spring Break.

Sounds good, Cici. It’s not “glazed” turkey, is it? And do I have to wear pastel colors?

No glazed - just baked, with gravy, potatoes, dressing, and cranberry sauce. And pastels are optional. The weather’s too gloomy for them right now.

I like the white chocolate bunnies and the fake plastic grass they put in Easter baskets. Other than that, I’ll stick with Passover.

I don’t like ham, but that’s just me. But give me candy, candy, candy and I am all good.

It’s been years since my mother cooked ham. Today it will be lamb chops. I’ll be joining her because Easter is her holiday, not mine. Mine was last month.

We didn’t have ham either. My mother made roast beef and some Italian pasta-looking dish.

Anyway, I’m with Hilly. I’m just here for the candy.

Happy Passover is almost over and my birthday is tomorrow! Yippee!

Peeps + total stranger’s Car Antenna = big fun. I’m in it for the chocolate.

Not only did we have ham, we had bacon and sausage too! We embrace pork products here in Bama! At the school my kids used to go to, they did a Seder meal every year. I’m going to stick with Christianity b/c I hate horseradish!!

I made cupcakes with bright pink Peep bunnies on them. The tackier, the better around here. I would say that’s because the baby Jesus likes tacky, but he’s not the baby Jesus today — he’s the adult ghost Jesus.

Happy Easter. I am not a ham fan myself, much preferring lamb, but ham is a mandatory deal here in the South, especially for Easter.

Brisket - burp, good.

I wore my Easter bonnet, with plenty o’frills… I avoided the camera however, so you’ll just have to imagine the majesty of it!

I’m not much of an Easter celebrator.

I don’t like ham and Peeps taste like sugar coated styrofoam. Ick.

We had brisket for dinner. Barbeque brisket with a really hot BBQ rub, and then a hot sauce painted on for the last hour of baking. It was FABULOUS. And Kosher. Because, that’s right! We’re Jewish!

Tomorrow is my favorite day of the year. Easter Monday when everyone goes back to work and the candy gets marked down to 50% off. Unlike Christmas, nobody is in the stores so you can really score. And pesach is almost over! It’s all good.

Anne Lamott once described ham as a big, salty pink eraser. We had turkey–my all time favorite.

Peeps? Oh, they’re so gross. I like coconut cake on Easter, or even just yellow cake with vanilla buttercream frosting. Easter candy? I like the cream-filled chocolate eggs here in Belgium…

And while I’m a girl who loves deep red, khaki, and earthy greens, I’m all about pastels in the spring. Bring on the pink!

I’m vacationing in NYC for a couple weeks. When I walk to the subway every morning I pass a building whose tenant has created little vignettes in each window. Mostly dramatic floral arrangements, but last week one window got changed into a little passover diorama. There were little dolls sitting around around a little table with a matzoh fabric cloth. Everyday one more doll would fall off the side . We surmised that the bitter herbs were getting the better of them.

No ham for us. We had venison with new potatoes and corn-on-the-cob. Personally, I’ve been to a Passover seder and I prefer it to ham.

I love Pesach, but I am ready for pizza again.

I prefer pork roast, stuffed with garlic cloves!
