Award Season
The finalists of the 2007 Weblog Awards (the Bloggies) were announced last week. As you may have noticed, I haven’t mentioned this until today. My reason has nothing to do with the fact that Citizen of the Month was not a finalist in anything, not even “The Best Blog Written by a Jewish Man Living in Redondo Beach,” which was beaten out by “The Surfing Orthodox Rabbi of Redondo Beach.” I was glad to see that Dooce was a finalist in FIVE (!) categories, including, “The Best Blog that Neil Kramer will Complain About When he Goes into Therapy.”
Several of my pseudo-fake friends are finalists — like the beautiful Laurie of Crazy Aunt Purl, the glamorous Deb of Smitten Kitchen, the fashionable Elisabeth of La Coquette, and the stunning Jay of Kill the Goat, none of who I’ve actually met. Their blogs are so popular already, and since I’m passive-aggressive, I’m not even going to bother to link to them. Suckers!
Instead, I’ll link to the graceful Tamarika, my blog crush of the day, who paid money to go on a date with me. Also, let’s be honest, since she is not a Bloogie finalist, she is much more likely to “make out” with me in the backseat of my Hyundai than the four other “bigshots.”

Is that Helen Mirren in that photo or Glenn Close? Either way, they deserve any award they get even though most award shows make me painfully uncomfortable. And don’t get me started on blog awards which always go to the same “popular” blogs. What is the point? To me the ONLY reason to bestow awards on blogs would be to discover interesting new ones, not just to kiss the ass of the same five. Sour grapes? I don’t think so, our culture is so award-crazed we’ll soon be carrying around trophies in our cars to give to strangers on the street. But of course YOU deserve all those awards. Hey, why wasn’t there a category for Jewish blogs on the Bloggies? (Not that you consider yours one.)
As for Tamarika, do I need to remind you two crazy kids that both of you are married? Oy!

Well, the brightside is making out is probably a lot more fun than winning an award. I’m just guessing…

Oh me oh my, Neilochka … how honored I am. This all makes not being a “Bloogie finalist” taste oh so sweet! Your loss, most certainly my gain.
Ah, Danny. Don’t panic! “Making out” in the back seat of a Hyundai can take on various forms and all fitting and suited to married lads and lasses.

Blog awards generally baffle me (because “look! a prize for talking about yourself!” doesn’t make sense in my head) but I always enjoy seeing fabulous blogs that I peruse getting noticed!

i have mixed feelings about these blog awards. it’s not like everyone is in the same market, you know? i’d rather be well liked in my crowd than in the entire blogosphere. more people to disappoint! ha ha.
you’re tops in my book!

I never seem to know any of the finalists. Story of my life as a writer.
One of my nicknames in high school was Smitten Kitten (both rhyme with Fitten–the second half of my double Southern name). So can I share in Smitten Kitchen’s glory? Just for a couple of seconds?

Humans just LOVE to compare themselves to one another. Who’s more popular? Who’s better? Who’s number 1? And I’m a total sucker for those things. I think it might be time for another Make Me Insecure Friday.

And plain jane’s award for favorite post from her favorite blogger ********drumroll******* “Award Season” by the fabulous and witty Neilochka!
Re: I was glad to see that Dooce was a finalist in FIVE (!) categories, including, “The Best Blog that Neil Kramer will Complain About When he Goes into Therapy.” LOVE IT!!!

And why is there never an award for Supporting Actor in a Blog? Frankly, this blog would boring as hell if I didn’t have Sophia to write about. I’m like the straight man. Do you realize how nice she is to let me exploit her as a character for your entertainment, in the same way that Laurie talks about yarn or Coquette talks about fashion or mommybloggers exploit their own…

Do they have an award for the blog that most often mentions their testes? Because that is the only area I would be qualified for.

No comment on certain blog finalists. Blech!
I’m pretty sure I nominated you and really, isn’t that an honor?

Neil:
You are truly the Helen Mirren of the blogosphere - not particularly young but classy, wise and witty, generous and warm, smart and curious. You would have had my vote!!

Hey, what about your penis? Wouldn’t he get an award? best supporting male lead? After all, aren’t all men led around by their genitals?

I’m going to start following Danny around in case he begins pulling trophies out of his trunk and giving them to middle-aged white girls who ignored the Bloggies this year because of saggy self-esteem.
By V-Grrrl on 01.31.07 3:29 am
I’d make out with you in the back seat of your huyndai, and not just because I have low self-esteem…

There needs to be an editor’s choice award for the Bloggies, but I guess that’s too much work on the organizer to actually read the work of the nominees. You know how when Taco Bell is always voted best Mexican restaurant in your local alternative publication, but the editors know about the best little hole in the wall place, and they share that with their readers. Until that happens, the Bloggies are dead to me.

Is “pseudo-fake” grammatically correct? I’m not a finalist either but I never thought I would be.
Still trying to get Dooce to comment eh?
By Chantel on 01.31.07 9:44 am
Chantel, I’d much rather have you.
By Neil on 01.31.07 10:35 am
Wasn’t Hyundai Sophia’s car?
